Sail Cleaning

 

Ah, the beauty of clean white sails on a blue sky. But wait! They aren't white; they're brown and icky! What to do? Should I take them down, fold them up, and ship them to a sail loft for cleaning (mucho dinero), or just live with the filth? Just then, in walks a friend with a power washer. With 1600 pounds of pressure and some crystal soap in the reservoir, we slowly raise one sail, three feet at a time. We soap up the area thoroughly and then blast it, a procedure that takes a couple of hours and can only be done on a calm day. To dry them, we go sailing! (or motoring since it's a calm day). Below is the end result. Not perfect, but nice! Now, to get to that teak, since the list goes on......
